Bowen sits further north and is far more spread out than the Airlie end of the region, so the jobs here tend to be larger and further apart. Blocks are generous, there's a lot of open ground and horticultural land around the edges of town, and a fair few properties run to acreage rather than a neat suburban lawn.

The climate is a touch drier than the Proserpine valley, which slows growth outside the wet but doesn't stop it — once the storms arrive in December, couch across Bowen takes off just as hard as anywhere in the Whitsundays.
